Road Trip! We went on the road to explore the beautiful and rugged Oregon Coast, the California Redwoods and the natural beauty of the interior of Oregon including Crater Lake. This was another Road Scholar trek that we joined up with in July of 2018, that took us from the jagged alpine terrain of the Cascade Mountains to mossy rainforests and wave-battered headlands. Highlights included a thrilling dune buggy ride up the amazing Oregon Dunes and a jet boat ride up the Rogue River. We discovered why the Northwest landscape is as awe-inspiring as it is unique.
As always, Road Scholar provided fascinating expert guides who shared their expertise on the natural history and local lore of the area. Group leaders Carol and Lynn Unser are recognized experts in fields of marine science, coastal history, commercial fishing and the timber industry. They provided unique knowledge and many fascinating stories. And they seemed to know just about everyone in Oregon! We were also joined by Dr. Robert Lillie, a national park ranger who is a professor of geosciences and an an expert in plate tectonics. It always enhances our travels when we have the opportunity to learn alongside experts as we explore some of the world’s grandest natural wonders.
We are happy to share our experiences and some of our photographs from this fun road trip. Click on the links below for more!
