Cuba – Beauty and Grace with Dancers

Jim and Betsy loved a photo trip they took in 2017 and always wanted to go back. And Jim is a total dance junkie – he loves to watch and enjoy all kinds of dance, especially ballet. So when the opportunity came up to go to Havana in 2024 with two professional photographers to capture pictures of professional dancers in the colorful and unique Cuban environments, we didn’t hesitate to sign up!

We joined a small group lead by the talented American photographer, Rad Drew, and Cuban-born photgrapher Ramses Batista, who has amazing connections with the dance community in Havana. They lined up the dancers (who were all amazing!) and we moved around the streets of Havana and the Malecon to capture the dancers in action in their native environment.

We had access to some fantastic locations, including inside the Teatro America, and the Great Theatre of Havana, home to the Cuban National Ballet Company. Ramses supplied each of us with flash accessories, and he and Rad shared expert advice on capturing the action and beauty of the graceful dancers.

And of course, there was a lot more to photograph than dancers – we enjoyed plenty of colorful street scenes and many, friendly faces. And we also truly enjoyed more than just the photography opportunities, as our group and our guides were fantastic, the food and accommodations were excellent, and we shared lots of laughter and came home with special memories.
