So many memorable experiences and thousands of images – it was hard to narrow our pictures to a manageable amount! The wildlife experiences far exceeded our expectations. There were times when we were in the specially outfitted photo boats that we could not decide which direction to shoot. There would be hippos in the water next to us on one side, an umbrella bird in the grassy area on the other side, and a herd of elephants and baboon troops on the land in front of us.
By land we drove by many giraffes, observed a pair of lions mating on the plains, enjoyed the playful antics of baboons, and photographed the graphic patterns of zebras. On the water, we were amazed by the huge hippos who were either just resting in water or on land, or sometimes either fighting or playing with each other. Our boat could get very close to shore, where we enjoyed watching a troop of banded mongooses scampering around a tree stump. We could get very close to a wide variety of colorful birds, and had fun trying to photograph kingfishers as they hovered over the water preparing to dive for food.
Here is a gallery of some of our favorite images from our African adventure. And there are many more in the galleries that follow.
