Pemaquid Lighthouse

On the way to Acadia, if one gets off the main road and meanders up the coast along Route 1, a stop at the Pemaquid Lighthouse in Bristol, Maine, at the tip of the Pemaquid Neck is on every photographer’s bucket list. The rugged rocks are relentlessly pounded by the surf, resulting in pools of water that act like mirrors and reflect the image of the lighthouse above. Perched atop dramatic veined granite, this picturesque lighthouse continues to send a beacon of light every six seconds to warn ships of the rocky coastline.  This is the lighthouse featured on the 2003 Maine quarter.  A quaint Fisherman’s Museum features artifacts and displays depicting life at the sea is located next to the lighthouse.

Sunrise is a great time to photograph this spectacular location, and you can enjoy it before crowds start to arrive. After the sun comes up, take a break and enjoy a delicious breakfast at the Seagull Oceanfront Restaurant, and enjoy the ocean view through the picture windows overlooking the sea.

Next stop Stonington and Crockett Cove Woods
