Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site

Step back in time to the days of an early American industrial landscape. In the 1800’s, Hopewell Furnace iron plantation produced iron and manufactured wood-burning stoves.  The massive water wheel still creaks and turns as water fills the wheel buckets, once used to produce air blasts to keep the furnace operating at a temperature of 2800 degrees Fahrenheit, necessary to produce iron.

Hopewell features an operating farm with sheep and horses.  There are quite a few buildings that give visitors an insight of early-American life, and they provide many wonderful photo opportunities.  In September, visitors are invited to pick apples from an apple-orchard that features thirty different varieties of apples.
