One of the most beautiful rivers in the Pine Barrens, the Oswego meanders through pitch pine forests, cedar and hardwood swamps. The tea-colored river is shallow, and best paddled in the Spring to avoid walking your canoe over the shallow spots. A highlight of our trip was when our friend and nature expert Mike had us pull our canoes over to explore a bog full of wild orchids. We gingerly walked through the ankle-high water to see an amazing assortment of wild flowers and pitcher plants.
